We have just returned from Huelgoat, and fell in love with it.. but I wanted to ask.. is swimming permitted in the lake?

Yes swimming is permitted. In fact every year the swimming part of the local triathlon is held on the lake.

Most go to the far side of the lake to the picnic area.
Alternatively you could buy the house in the link below and go swimming from the garden lol...
