Post  pennys on Sat 15 Dec - 17:38

Hi All, this is my first post as my self,my husband and 2 children are hoping to be living in huelgoat early in 2013. Very Happy We are after any info on schools primarie and college, my elder son is worried he will be the only english teenager on the planet! Our 10 yr old has mild addtional needs...but is very excited. My husband will be commuting to the uk for a while, which i believe is very common!
Soooo if any one can pass on any info re schools and dr/hospital, 14yr old is diabetic! We like to have a complicated life and an adventure of course!! Laughing
The boys hobbies are rugby, choir/singing and outdoorsy stuff.. I would just like to make some great friends for when i have a crisis Very Happy
Thanks all that read this x

Hello and welcome Pennys

There are quite a few English speaking teenagers around the area.
There are Hospitals in both Carhaix and Morlaix.
There is an English speaking doctor in Poullaouen.

Normally you will get an answer to questions posted on this forum as there are plenty of people in the area willing to help in times of need.

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Usually in France you don't choose your school. The only way to do so is if you can't do the options you require at your local school. Alternatively Brittany is riddled with private schools.
I think French schools generally have higher academic expectations than British schools but don't offer the same amount of out of school activities. Days are a bit longer too, but you'll enjoy the longer summer holiday!

All the best

whoops

Post  pennys on Sat 22 Dec - 18:59

think i entered my reply incorrectly!! But we are vsiting end of Jan to see the schools in Huelgoat which my boys are sooo excited about...
Not sure if anyone would know but my younger son is being assessed for Autistic Spectrum Disorder as well as having a 'statement of special educational needs' but attends mainstream school in the UK (as is usual) with a teaching assistant 17hrs per week. How will he manage in France, or should i say 'how do the french manage this??' He does not have a behaviour issues at school.
thanks

Hi there. You'll need to talk to the head about all that. Teaching assistants do exist over here but as it's a recession you might end up with just a special "plan" which results in not much really. He will get extra time in exams and tests though.
