Bus Transport Empty Bus Transport

Post  MB Sun 2 Sep - 20:31

Hi,
Does anyone know how practical it is to get to Huelgoat from Roscoff (and return) by public transport? When I was in Huelgoat a month ago I noticed bus stops in the square with timetables that looked as if there was a service, but how practical is it, has anyone tried it?

Bus Transport Empty Bus Services

Post  Bingle Mon 3 Sep - 21:35

Hello Mike,
The bus services are pretty reliable, albeit infrequent. There should be a timetable by or on the bus-stop (I'm sure there is one in Huelgoat square). The only thing to be wary of is that during school term times the public bus can also double as a school bus, so will "go round the houses" (This is especially true in Carhaix) and become full of polite little children (actually, French children are a million times nicer than their English equivalent!). Get to Morlaix, to the centre or Gare. The service to Roscoff is varied via bus or train and it is down to researching which is best in terms of timing. It is cheap, though. Roscoff to Morlaix by bus is (or was) 2 euros last year! If you call the bus station in Brest, they will send you the timetables ("Horaires") for whatever services you want. Try 02 98 44 46 73 for Brest, although I'm not sure if this is the correct number (it is Brest Bus Station, however). They will also send you the timetables direct to the UK!
Routes thus (although may be out of date, but it's a start!):
Ligne 61 Carhaix-Huelgoat-Morlaix
Ligne 52A Quimper-Huelgoat-Morlaix
Train ("TER") Morlaix-Roscoff. Several during the day, but some may be by bus replacements.
There may well be other services; eg normal bus service between Morlaix and Roscoff. Worth travelling on as it follows a picturesque route!
Finally, please make sure that you have enough time to catch the ferry!
When I'm not driving I usually get to Morlaix from Roscoff by bus or train and then walk along the D769 until I get fed up, then hitch-hike to Berrien or Huelgoat. Not suggesting that you do this, though!
I hope that this has been a guide, at least! Always here to help!
Best Wishes, Ian

You can find the bus timetables here:

http://www.viaoo29.fr/

And yes, it's just 2 euros for a single journey anywhere in Finistère. Even cheaper is a carnet of 10 tickets at 15 euros.
