Meet Malo, the gardener at the Arbres du Monde (trees of the world) site in Huelgoat

At the age of 26 with a horticultural diploma, the gardener and botanist, Malo Dormont, a native of Brest, arrived at the arboretum "Les Arbres du Monde" or the Trees of the world in Huelgoat last March. Since then, he has been maintaining the twenty-two hectares which make up this remarkable garden, a space dedicated to the world's biodiversity with 3600 species of trees and shrubs from five continents.

"I am a botany enthusiast " says the gardener. To help him in his continued training, he benefits from the vast knowledge of Frédéric Tournay, the person in charge of the botanical collections, recently recruited to the site.

"At present, there is a great deal of work " notes Malo Dormont, "The weather report hasn't been very favourable these last few months. We've had to delay with mowing for example". The summer, nevertheless, is a slightly quieter period. "There are no fresh blooms". The periods when most work takes place for the maintenance of the twenty-two hectares are the spring, the autumn and the winter with all the cutting back, pruning etc".

With the cold weather and when the days get shorter, nature is at rest and allows this maintenance. Malo Dormont also takes care with securing the site for visitors but also the tree nurseries, with the watering and the transplanting. "We've put on sale some plants among which many are rare species". The gardener from Trees of the world also gives advice when he supervises the visits by the general public.
